Editor’s Note – June 2023

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of a school year and therefore at the end of my magazine journey. The aim of this magazine was to publish one magazine per month for a school year (10 months) to support my wonderful fellow SNAs. I decided to publish one extra edition for the Summer Holidays to have the accomplishment of a full year publication. It is a happy and sad moment for me! From one side ”happy” as when I look back at all my cover pages of the magazine, I cannot believe I did it! I had the opportunity to meet wonderful people during these 10 months. I have learned so much from them and I was delighted to pass the knowledge to my dear readers. I hope you enjoyed every edition as much as I did. It was an incredible journey, one of a lifetime and even though it wasn’t an easy job I will continue publishing the magazine for the next school year.

I have loads of new ideas for next year, so please bear with me as I start creating the magazine again for another school year. Together we can make our schools a better place for all the wonderful children we work with. I strongly believe that everything starts with us adults. As Jackie Farrell said in her article about Mindfulness for secondary school students, we should all give a good example first and be the role model for them, so they can see how to practice mindfulness. The letter from Dr. Susan M. Lawlor is another way of support and encouragement to students to just justify that at the end everything will be okay. Susan also wrote a great toolkit to help younger minds become stronger.

As promised in the May edition I continue to present information I’ve gathered during the conference in Belfast organised by Middletown Centre for Autism. Please visit the recommended website for full information as I was only sharing the main ideas and I only touched the surface of the programmes etc.

It seems like there is a lot about mindfulness and well-being for students in this edition so Mia King the certified Forest Bathing Guide is taking us SNAs into a journey to a Forest and she is showing us the benefits of ‘a real bath’ in nature. We all know that June is one of the hardest months, supporting our well-being is utmost important.

Along the way of all editions I have to say that all articles written by my guests and experts were prepared with so much care, respect and admiration for Special Needs Assistants. All the articles became our comprehensive toolkit and were incredibly helpful in providing a framework for special needs assistants in the classroom. The words serve as the foundation to act upon in protecting the needs and minds of our pupils/students and helping them to grow. Thank you so much for all the wonderful articles during these 10 months.

Happy Reading!

Yours,

MAGDALENA LANDZIAK
