Editor’s Note – January 2023

The New Year is finally here! A very warm welcome to 2023! We’ve been given a brand new 12 chapters to write a new story. We just began the 365 days of opportunities to read more, to do interesting things, explore, connect with our inner beauty and to let go of what doesn’t serve us! Sometimes the brand-new calendar may feel overwhelming, that’s why I invited Dr. Susan Mary Lawlor to show us how to respect ourselves in this regard. She wrote a very motivational piece that can be used in the New Year as a resolution. Just before the New Year I had the absolute pleasure of meeting a wonderful author of a wonderful book. During our zoom call we discussed her book ‘’The Autism Friendly Cookbook’’ and after that I went straight to the kitchen.

Lydia Wilkins is based in the UK and she is sharing her story about being autistic and the learning curves of cooking. Her book is designed to make the basic life-skill accessible to everyone, including those on the spectrum. As many of us are helping students at school to learn these skills, I found it necessary to talk about it in the magazine. As promised in December there will be different topics this year, but it seems like many of us still need some guidance in the area of the neurodiverse world.

A while ago, I completed a workshop about FASD. I have never heard of this abbreviation, so it intrigued me to learn more about it. In an interview with Tristan Casson-Rennie, he shares a lot of information about Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Very interesting to read to be able to recognise the symptoms and to know how to help students that are under our care.

Denise Enright, who is the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and Play Therapist, wrote an article about connection and cooperation in the classroom. In this article she is telling us about a new resource that can support us and it is called Mind Moments by REMindEd. REMind Ed™ aims to promote and enable wellbeing to be part of the everyday normal routine, just like brushing our teeth. It is a practical strategy aiming to enhance wellbeing and support all age groups to take care of their emotional health. The best part of it is that they can be used in school and at home to support the building of lifelong, healthy habits and promote mental hygiene.

Last but not least is another wonderful book for children called ‘’The Little Squirrel Who Worried’’ by Katie O’Donoghue. As Katie has a master’s degree in Art Psychotherapy, I asked her questions around this to figure out how it can help us SNAs, and you know what, she shares an interesting approach around praising a piece of child’s art with us that you can read in the article. Her book is another tool that we can use to help children overcome anxiety and understand their feelings.

As always you can find different ZONES in the magazine to keep a good balance between work and life. Don’t forget to read The Not-so-Secret Diary of an SNA by Louise Conlon.

In February I’m going to an event in London, and I cannot wait to share with you all the facts about manifesting. As I am a huge fan of Roxie Nafousi, I’m going to see the ”LONDON LOOK” 😉 Im hoping to bring lots of positivity from that event to spread the knowledge of manifesting.

I’m looking forward to seeing you in the month of LOVE.

Happy Reading!

Yours,
